New Delhi: India has launched an investigation into alleged dumping of electronic calculators from Malaysia.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) said it has found sufficient evidence of below-cost imports of the product from Malaysia to start the probe.
Ajanta LLP has filed the plea for the imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of calculators from Malaysia.
Malaysia is a key trading partner of India. The trade between the countries increased to USD 17.25 billion in 2018-19 from USD 14.71 billion in 2017-18.
“The authority hereby initiates an investigation into the alleged dumping, and consequent injury to the domestic industry…to determine the existence, degree and effect of alleged dumping and to recommend the amount of anti-dumping duty, which if levied, would be adequate to remove the injury to the domestic industry,” the DGTR has said in a notification.
The period of investigation is 2018-19. However, the data of 2015-18 would also be looked into by the directorate to understand the impact of imports.
