New Delhi: Imports of as many as 26 items, including compressors used in refrigerating equipment, and parts of air conditioning machine have increased in the last five years (2014-19).
The other goods whose imports have registered an increase include filtering or purifying machinery; machinery for filling, closing, sealing, capsuling or labelling bottles; certain ball bearings; lithium ion batteries; certain electric conductors; liquid crystal devices; and certain instruments used in telecommunications.
Compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of compressor used in refrigerating equipment during 2014-19 stood at 20.59 per cent and that of parts of air conditioning machine are increasing during the period was 3.54 per cent.
These figures assume significance as the country is putting effort to curtail imports of non-essential items.
Continuous imports would discourage domestic manufacturers to make these goods.
