Govt tenders of Rs 25K modified to boost Made in India goods

New Delhi: To promote Made in India goods, government tenders of worth Rs 25,000 crore were re-issued with revised applicability norms on the intervention of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), according to a report.

A Rs 8,000-crore tender for the gasification of a urea and ammonia project was among the orders that were re-issued with modified norms.

The eligibility criteria of a Rs 8,135 crore tender related to setting up if a 2,400 MW project was also modified. A tender worth Rs 3,000 crore for Mumbai Metro was also modified.

The DPIIT is taking every step for effective implementation of public procurement order, 2017, to promote domestic products, an official was quoted as saying.

The ‘Make in India’ programme aims at promoting India as an important investment destination and a global hub for manufacturing, design and innovation. The ‘Make in India’ initiative does not target the manufacturing sector alone but also aims at promoting entrepreneurship in the country.

The initiative is further aimed at creating a conducive environment for investment, modern and efficient infrastructure, opening up new sectors for foreign investment and forging a partnership between government and industry through a positive mindset.
