
New Delhi: The import of a synthetic resin, polymethyl methacrylate, has been prohibited with effect from September 1, the commerce ministry said on Thursday.
The resin is used in products like shatterproof windows, and illuminated signs.
“Import policy of polymethyl methacrylate is revised from free to prohibited with effect from September 1 this year,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said in a notification.
Import of the product during April-June 2019 stood at Rs 8.43 lakh. It was Rs 45.74 lakh in 2018-19.
